Coming home after nine years abroad.
After nine years working abroad, I moved home to Waterford with my partner and our three kids. We settled into a long-term let - a real home, stability, roots. But like many families caught in the current Irish housing crisis, that stability was cut short when the property was sold from under us. We had to start again.

We entered the stressful cycle of moving between off-season short-term lets. Last summer, facing a near-miss with actual homelessness, we were incredibly fortunate to stay in a friend’s caravan for three months. It wasn’t easy, but it gave us something unexpected: time. Time to look after properties, talk regularly with our hosts, and see the hospitality world from the other side of the door. That’s where the seeds for YourGuide were planted.

Living on the other side of the hospitality exchange, I saw exactly where the friction was. What separates a standard stay from a 5-star experience isn’t the thread count or the view - it’s clear, seamless, and beautiful communication. Over the last three months, I took everything I learned from those hosts and built the exact tool I wished we had received as guests. Not a corporate product. A practical one.
